Beijing Climate & Time

Beijing is not blessed with congenial weather. Autumn September-October is the best time to visit-little rain, not dry or humid, pleasant cloak of foliage. Winter isn't bad if you're used to the cold-although the temperature can dip as far as –20 ℃ and you freeze your butt off, parts of the capital appear charming in this season. The subdued winter lighting makes the place very photogenic. Winter clothing is readily available -- there are many shops and shopping malls in Beijing. Spring is short, dry and dusty – in April-May a phenomenon known as 'Yellow Wind' or 'Sandstorm' plagues the capital when fine dust particles are blown in from the Gobi Desert in Inner Mongolia, sandpapering everything in sight including your face. The locals run around with mesh bags over their heads. But you need not worry about this problem now because the Chinese government has carried out a great plan for forest planting in Inner Mongolia and Hebei Province. The 'Sandstorm' has been control to some extent and the environment of Beijing has made a great improvement for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
