Yangtz Cruise

Day 1 Arrive in Beijing (no meal)

Meet your guide at the Beijing Airport and then transfer to the hotel. Time at leisure to get acquainted with your new surroundings.

Day 2 Beijing (B, L, D)

Hightlights today: Temple of Heaven, Tiananmen Square,the Forbidden City

Private escorted tour to China's existing largest structure for sacrifice to heaven - Temple of Heaven. It was used to hold a memorial ceremony for the God in Winter Solstice Festival and to pray for harvest in the first month of the lunar year by the emperors in Ming and Qing dynasties.

And then go to the Tiananmen Square, the largest city square in the world. Walk throught the Gate of Heavenly Peace (Tian'anmen Gate) to the Forbidden City. The Forbidden City, nominated as World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 1987, is the largest ancient palatial structure in the world and the best-preserved imperial palace in China.

Tonight’s dinner, we arrange you the famous Peking Duck Banquet, which used to be a royal court dish with a history of around 1500 years.

Day 3 Beijing (B, L)

Hightlights today: Mutianyu Great Wall, Beijing Hutongs

Great Wall is a must-go when visit Beijing. We will show you a less busy part at Mutianyu. Drive 1.5hrs northeast from downtown, you will get to the foot of Mutianyu Great Wall. Take cable car to No. 14 Tower directly and then challenge steps on the Great Wall. It is suggested to walk to No. 23 Tower, the highlight section of the Wall. Spend around 2 hours on the wall and descend by cable car at No. 6 Tower.

Drive back to downtown Beijing, take a walk in the old alleyways (Beijing hutong) with a short rickshaw riding. You stop at a traditional courtyard home for a cup of tea and get a historic view of hutong life.

 

Mutianyu Great Wall

Day 4 Beijing → Chongqing by flight (B, L)

Hightlights today: Summer Palace

After breakfast, pay a visit to the Summer Palace, Qing’s Imperial rulers’ favorite summer residence. UNESCO inscribed Summer Palace a World Cultural Heritage Site in 1998. A dragon boat cruie is recommended if the weather is good.

After that, transfer to the airport for your flight to Chongqing. Upon arrival, be picked up to your hotel.

Day 5 Chongqing → Dazu → Yangtze River Cruise by private car (B, L)

Hightlights today: Dazu Grottoes

This morning, we drive about 2 hours to Dazu -- a county famed for its Buddhist archeological sites. Dazu Grottoes include more than 50,000 Buddhist, Taoist and Confucian rock carvings and 100,000 characters of inscriptions dotted around Dazu, which are mainly found on North Hill and Baoding Hill. Today we will go to the Baoding Hill, as the sculptures at Baoding Hill comprise the best of Dazu's art.

After sightseeing, return to Chongqing and board a deluxe cruise ship and settle into your comfortable outside cabin to begin your memorable Yangtze cruise.

Day 6 Yangtze River Cruise (B, L, D)

Hightlights today: Fengdu or Shibaozhai

On board, shore excursion to "the Ghost City" Fengdu or Shibaozhai depending on the schedule of the cruise companies. Since 2010, some cruise companies offer optional shore excursions during your cruise, please kindly check with your travel consultant for more information.

Day 7 Yangtze River Cruise (B, L, D)

Hightlights today: Goddess Stream or Lesser Three Gorges

Today you'll get a close look of the enchanting landscape as you board a small boat and cruise along a tributary to the Yangtze to explore the exceptionally beautiful Lesser Three Gorges or Goddess Stream depending on the arrangement of the cruise company.

Day 8 Yichang → Shanghai by flight (B)

Hightlights today: Three Gorge Dam

Shore excursion to the amazing Three Gorge Dam: it is the world's largest power station in terms of installed capacity (22,500 MW). Later, disembark at Yichang. After lunch, transfer to airport and fly to vibrant Shanghai.

Day 9 Shanghai (B, L)

Hightlights today: Shanghai Museum, Tianzifang, the Bund, Oriental Pearl TV Tower

First you will head to the Shanghai Museum. It is widely recognized as one of the best collections of ancient art in China. The bronze collection is considered the best in the world, with other first-rate exhibits of sculpture, jade, calligraphy, painting, and Ming and Qing dynasty furniture and minority art.

Afterwards you will visit the Tianzifang. Tianzifang is a narrow lane dotted with local style Shikumen Houses, here you can appreciate the old Shikumen residences and find the epitome of locals’ life. Though Tianzifang possesses international sense of art, it’s still a residence area. You can steep into modern art atmosphere and take your time in some pretty handicrafts shops. And besides boutiques and art studios, there are various fascinating bars and exquisite restaurants where you can enjoy Italian, French, Southeastern cuisines, etc.

After lunch you will explore the Bund, Shanghai's famous waterfront area on the western bank of the Huangpu River. Originally a tow path for dragging rice barges into port, it slowly grew into the world financial center today. Your guide will take you into historical buildings and tell you stories about their past.

Finally, take a bird view of Shanghai & Huangpu River from sightseeing floor of the Oriental Pearl TV Tower - one of the most attractive landmarks and cultural symbols in Shanghai.

Optional night show:
The ERA Acrobatic Show is a fascinating show that tells a story from ancient times till present day. This show includes surprising feats, live music, complete plots and other spectacular features.

Huangpu River

Day 10 Shanghai → Suzhou → Shanghai by private car (B, L)

Hightlights today: Humble Administrator's Garden, Pan Gate, Grand Canal, Pingjiang River

Drive 1.5 hours to Suzhou to visit the Humble Administrator's Garden. The Humble Administrator's Garden is the largest and most renowned garden. Your guide will tell you the history and some stories of this traditional garden.

After lunch, transfer to visit the only remaining ancient city gate in China with both a lower water entrance and an upper land entrance - Pan Gate. It was built at a time when a canal moat surrounded Suzhou. Then you can research silk products at No.1 Silk Factory, with a history of more than 80 years, Suzhou No.1 Silk Factory enjoys a good reputation in the silk industry. The high-grade filature silk made in the factory has won the national gold medal.

Have a leisure walk along the Grand Canal, which is also known as the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal is the earliest and the longest artificial river in the world. And take a small boat in Pingjiang River. Passing old houses and bridges, seeing local people washing clothes at the dock and enjoy sunshine by the river.

Day11 Shanghai Departure (B)

At the appropriate time today you will be collected from your hotel by your guide, and transferred to airport or train station for your homebound flight.
