Dali Climate

Located on a fertile plateau between the Cangshan Mountains to the west and Erhai Lake to the east, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture enjoys a typical highland monsoon climate. Its temperatures are generally moderate, neither too cold nor too hot. Annually, the average temperature is about 15.1 ℃. Its rainy season begins in June and lasts till October. The hottest days are in July with average temperature of 22℃ while the coldest in January at 8℃. Thanks to its higher altitude, Dali enjoys bright sunshine which is most welcome during the winter months. However, you should take some warm clothes in case the weather turns unexpectedly cool after a rain.

Dali is like spring all the year round and called the "Sweden of the East". It has 126 days during which the temperature is 18.7-20.6 ℃,the best climate for convalescence in the world. Moreover, 229 days are frost-free, providing a suitable environment for the growth of various kinds of plants. Flowers blossom all the year round.

The best time to visit Dali is from March to June when spring is in full swing with its sunshine and fresh air. Importantly, many festivals and celebrations are held by the Bai people during this time. Tourists can take this opportunity to touch the strong ethnic flavor of Dali.
