Canada Will Rent Two Chinese Pandas

2010-06-30

China will lease Canada two pandas for 10 years. Chinese President Hu Jintao and Canadian Prime Minister Harper proclaimed the news after they took Part in the 2010 Group of 20 summit meeting and had a talk in Toronto. According to their agreement, the Toronto Zoo will be home to the two pandas.

It is reported that a Chinese giant panda once made a short visit to Toronto Zoo in 1985. And since the 1990s, the zoo has kept hoping for renting pandas from China . The Zoo made a report in 2009 and predicted that if the two panda bears stay in Toronto Zoo, they would bring the zoo C$ 9,300,000 in the first year.

Also, the Toronto Zoo had estimated the spending of the pandas' new home would up to C$ 15,000,000. The transport of bamboos by air from China may spend a large sum of money. But the officers of the zoo said they are confident of not costing a penny of their own because the visitors's enthusiasm would bring them a lot of sponsors from all over the country.
