The Post-Seismic Yushu - An Eco-Tourism City To Be

2010-04-26

Where the post-seismic Yushu will go? Being a Tibetan autonomous prefecture in Qinghai province and the headwaters of the Yellow River (Huang He), the Yangtze River (Chang Jiang), and the Mekong River (Lancang Jiang), Yushu has been the focus of attention of the world since it was rased by an earthquake on April 14.

It is reported that the Qinghai provincial government has set their overall target principle about the post-disaster reconstruction: "building a plateau eco-tourism city". At present, the Department of Qinghai Municipal and Rural Construction is drawing out a general program on post-disaster reconstruction, and it will be submitted to the Ministry of Construction of China.

Also, on Sunday the Earthquake Relief Work Design Office joint-established  by Qinghai University and Tsinghua University told the diggers of Chinafacttours that the reconstruction program of Yushu has been started. The program will focus on eco-development and Tibetan flavor.

"The experts from Qinghai University, Tsinghua University, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Guangzhou University will come in on the Yushu rebuilding program," Said Guoliang Zhang, an associate professor who works for Department of Architectural Engineering of Qinghai University. "The rebuilding will give priority to eco-tourism with distinctive national and folk features."

Still, the diggers of Chinafacttours learn that the Chinese Academy of Engineering will hold a symposium on "Rebuilding Yushu" on Thursday. Fulin Zhou, a member of China Engineering Academy and the head of the Antiseismic Engineering Research Center based in Guangzhou University will attend the meeting and share his experience about the rebuilding of Beichuan County (in Sichuan province).
