Tourist Route on Li River to Resume

2010-04-08

Thanks to continuous rainfall for several days, the water level of the famed tourist route on the Lijiang River has been high enough for the safe navigation of tourist ships. Tourist trips on the Li River (aka Lijiang River) will resume on April 8.

According to monitoring by the Water Information Department under the Guilin Hydrographic Bureau, the water level of the Lijiang River has continually risen over recent days. It reached 142 meters on April 5, which is the water level required for the safe navigation of tourist ships with a water flow of about 69 cubic meters per second.

The combined amount of water stored in Guilin's three large reservoirs and nine medium-sized reservoirs reached above 344 million cubic meters, ensuring the normal navigation of tourist ships in the Lijiang River. Guilin's related departments have therefore agreed that the entire tourist route from Mopanshan (Zujiang) to Yangsuo will open again on April 8.

Affected by the drought, the water level of the Lijiang River had been falling since the start of the spring, and the tourist route on the Lijiang River had to be "shrunk." Tourist ships were only able to navigate inside a 9-kilometer-long section of the tourist route between Yangdi and Jiumahuashan.
