Small Wild Goose Pagoda

The Small Wild Goose Pagoda (or Little / Lesser Wild Goose Pagoda, XiaoYan Ta) is a Tang Dynasty (618 - 907 AD) brick structure situated in the grounds of the Janfu Temple. The top of the pagoda was shaken off by an earthquake in the middle of the 16 century but the rest of the structure now only has 13 stories stand at 43.38 meters high, is intact. A flight of wooden stairs inside the pagoda leads to the top. In the temple, there is a 10,000-kilogram iron bell that was cast in 1192, known as the Morning Bell of the Wild Goose Pagoda.

The Jianfu Temple was built in 684 AD as a site to hold prayers to bless the after-life of the late Emperor Gao Zong. The pagoda, a rather delicate building of 15 tiers, was built in 707 - 709 AD and also housed Buddhist scriptures brought back by another pilgrim to India. You can get to the pagoda on bus No.21, No.29 or No. 402 and get off at the Xiaoyanta stop. The pagoda stands on Youyi Xilu just west of the intersection with Nanguan Zhengjie. It's open daily from 7:30 am to 6:30 pm.
