Xi'an Silk Road International Tourism Festival

*Time: The festival is generally held in September, but in indeterminate year. Tourists may contact the local tourism bureau to inquire about the festival.
 
*Venue: Xi’an City, Shanxi Province

*Origin: Known as Chang’an in ancient times, Xi’an is one of the four major ancient capitals in the world. In the119, Emperor Wudi of the Han Dynasty (206 B.C-A.D.220) sent Zhang Qian as an envoy to the Western Regions. Zhang Qian, who led a diplomatic mission of over 300 people, started off from Chang’an with a large amount of silk, cloth, cattle and sheep and gold. The envoy left his footprints in 36 countries, such as Iran, India, and Afghanistan spreading the seeds of civilization and friendship in the neighboring countries of China. Since then, the “Silk Road,” which started from Chang’an, passed Central Asia and West Asia and reached Europe, was formally open. Making Chang’an become the largest international metropolis and trade center in Asia. The Xi’an Municipal People’s Government sponsors the Xi’an Silk road International Tourism Festival annually to commemorate the historical event and represent the prosperity and graceful bearing of the Han Dynasty over 2,000years ago.

*What’s On: During the festival, the host city organizes various activities, such as the ancient-style welcoming guests to the city gate ceremony, which is known as the “No.1 style of Chinese Welcoming Guest,” the performance of Tang-style music and dances, theatrical performances, Xi’an delicacies, tourist commodities, Xi’an delicacies, tourist commodities on display and sate and symposiums on tourism.  

*Main Tourist Attractions: Museum of Emperor or Qin Shihuang’s Terra-Cotta Warriors and Horses, Mausoleum of the Emperor Qin Shihuang, which are included in the list ofworld cultural heritage, Bell Tower, Drum Tower, Big Wild Goose Pagoda, Small Wild Goose Pagoda,  Huaqing Pool, the city walls of the Ming Dynasty, the ruins of Lantian Man, Museum of Banpo ruins, The Great Mosque, Lishan Mountain, etc. 

*Transport: it is very convenient for tourists to go to Xi’an by air or by train.
